MELBOURNE centre Will Chambers has been accused of intentionally trying to injure Jarryd Hayne with an ugly crusher tackle in the Storm’s win over the Parramatta Eels on Friday night.
The incident took place minutes before halftime with the Eels trailing 10-0.
Hayne took a hit up and spun in the tackle before Chambers grabbed him around the neck and dropped to the ground using his body weight.
Hayne was left sore after the tackle which was penalised but Chambers was not put on report.
Andrew Johns slammed the tackle during Nine’s Coverage.
“This is nasty,” he said
“That’s just not needed. That is so dangerous.”
Peter Sterling meanwhile said Chambers’ wrestling-style move appeared intentional.
“You can’t do that,” Sterling said.
“In my book there is intent in that tackle.”
While Chambers was not placed on report, he may have a case to answer for from the match review panel, potentially creating further headaches for coach Craig Bellamy who saw a host of stars injured.
