English stayer Red Verdon will have to undergo another veterinary inspection to be cleared to run in the Melbourne Cup after showing further signs of soreness in a heel.

The Ed Dunlop-trained Red Verdon was found to have a bruised heel on Thursday but passed a Racing Victoria inspection on Friday and another on Saturday morning.

A few hours later RV said the horse had again shown soreness in his off-fore heel when he cooled down after his work.

He will be examined at 3.30pm on Saturday, an hour before acceptances are taken for the Cup.

Scottish stayer Nakeeta was also re-examined on Saturday morning and passed suitable to accept for the Cup.

Nakeeta was 24th in the latest ballot ahead of Saturday’s Derby day meeting at Flemington.
