AFL finals Match Review: Toby Greene escapes charge after ‘karate kick’

Published by Staff Writers, 10 September 2018 on

GREATER Western Sydney forward Toby Greene has escaped a suspension for his ‘karate kick’ in the Giants’ Elimination Final win over Sydney.

But he will be $2500 less off after being fined for misconduct on Isaac Heeney.

Match review officer Michael Christian deemed the incident with Nic Newman below the force that was required for a charge to be laid.

Returning from injury, the star Giant had 27 disposals and booted three goals in a standout performance as GWS marched into the second round of finals with a 49-point win over Sydney.

But Greene came under scrutiny for throwing out his foot in multiple marking contests.

Greene was fined for misconduct by the AFL’s match review panel in 2017 for a kick to Western Bulldogs’ Luke Dahlhaus.

Greene’s teammate Jacob Hopper was fined $2500 for misconduct, while Swan Zak Jones can accept a $2000 sanction for rough conduct on Callan Ward.

Earlier, Richmond’s Josh Caddy accepted his two $1500 fines for misconduct against Hawthorn’s Daniel Howe. Both incidents occurred during the second quarter.
