Aussie NFL star Adam Gotsis’ rape charge dropped

Published on 16 August, On

AUSTRALIAN NFL star Adam Gotsis will not be prosecuted in the US after a woman claimed he raped her five years ago.

Fulton County District lawyer Paul Howard Jr announced on Wednesday he had concluded a five-month investigation.

“The evidence presented does not warrant any further action” against the Melbourne-born defensive end for the Denver Broncos, Mr Howard said.

The rape allegation was made by a woman who claimed she met Gotsis at a party on March 9, 2013, in Atlanta, while he was playing college football for Georgia Tech.

“After a careful and thorough investigation, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has decided not to proceed with the case against Mr Adam Gotsis,” Mr Howard said in a statement.

“My office understands the sensitivity and significance of these investigations, but the evidence presented does not warrant any further action in this case.”

The allegation had placed a cloud over the playing future of the 25-year-old Gotsis, who has emerged as a key player for the Broncos heading into the 2018-19 NFL season.

Gotsis, who stands 191cm tall and weighs 139kg, was forced to turn himself in to the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta in March on a charge of strongarm rape.
