AFL Round 14 Preview

Adelaide v HawthornThe final Thursday night game for the year and it should be a cracker. Crows at home have been a tough nut to crack and even with a couple speed bumps recently still look to have the Hawks covered. The Hawks welcome back some very important players this week none bigger than their heart and soul Hodge, when he plays the Hawks grow another leg. The Crows look a little fragile the past month and will need a lift from many players, a few too many down hill skiers are hurting them. The Hawks have been better with out setting the world on fire, getting back to basics and playing a hard brand of footy that is ugly but getting the job done for them. The Crows should win but expect the Hawks to have plenty of fight.
Predict Crows win 7 points

Sydney v Essendon

Friday Night Footy at its best, the Bombers fighting hard to stay in the top eight and have been playing some brilliant football. The Swans really grinding their way back into the season and have won six of their past 7 games. The Dons have been fast starters winning 10 of a possible 12 first quarters ands they will need to do this again to stay with the Swans. The Dons are full of belief right now and are building nicely on the back of some of the young guns in Merret and Daniher. The Swans are getting their playing back into form it’s been great to watch Buddy getting back to his best as well as Kennedy and co in the middle. Expect a tight low scoring match with. Ever more than a kick or two in it. Home ground gives the swans a slight edge.
Predict Swans win 9 points
Collingwood v Port Adelaide

This shapes as one of the games of the round, Port clinging on to a top four spot and the Pies so desperate to keep in touch with the eight can not afford another loss here. The Pies welcome back Reid and Goldsack which Help with the Pies structure and tighten up their defence. The Power are forced to make two changes due to injury and will hope to change their win/loss/Winn/loss yo yo season of the past few weeks. This may be 4th v 14th on the ladder but there is such little difference between all the sides that even the smallest misstep from the power can see the Magpies taking full advantage.
Predict Collingwood win 5 points

Brisbane v GWS

Can the upsets continue first v last but right now it counts for nothing. The Giants got beat by the Blues in a tough thriller at the G and the Lions took it up to the Power for long parts of the game last week. Two weeks ago the Lions trounced the Dockers at home and the Giants will not want to take them lightly. The Giants have been winning but it hasn’t been pretty a few close calls scattered with some impressive wins.

The Lions despite their standing do have a premier mid field and possible the best ruck man in the game. If the Lions mids can out play the Giants then they stand a chance. The Giants have been on the good side of some close games which will hold them in good stead.
Predict Giants win 29 points

Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne

Another one of these super important games, wins are so vital right. Ow for all these sides sitting mid table. The Dogs seem to have been on this rocky road since the season started and it’s taken its toll on players. They need to find that magic potion to get them back in good form but more importantly they need to get fit players back in. The Kangas are trying, they show some absolute brilliance but just can’t compete with the more mature sides for long periods. They have a great forward set up and have some gun mids with a solid defence, they are building it will just take time. They get the Dogs at a vulnerable time and could cause another upset if they can put a four quarter effort in.
Predict North Melbourne win 19 points

West Coast v Melbourne

Again it’s one of these very vital games for both sides the Demons in 5th the Eagles in 7th. Gawn is back the Demons but hey lose Jones in the middle and Watts who has been playing well. The Demons are on a three game winning streak and a nit her win will put them clear in the top eight. The Eagles have been scratchy winning two of their last five games granted a couple close ones to the Suns and Giants. Eagles have won their last five against the Demons and should go very close to making it the six with this game being in Western Australia. If the Eagles can get the edge in the mid field (Jones out a big help) then they should be able to edge the Demons out here in a low scoring affair.
Predict West Eagles 13 points

Geelong v Freemantle

Sunday kicks off with the Cats hosting the Dockers at Skilled Stadium. The Dockers were disappointing last week against the Lions and if they turn up with that same mentality the Cats will be chasing a big percentage boost. The Dockers are a bit of an enigma, their best is very good and can match it with the best in the competition but their is s big gap to their worst which has seen lose some winnable games this year. The Cats will try to use this game to springboard into the last half the year a solid win here will entrench the, in the top four and two games clear in the top eight. Expect the Dockers to come out fighting they won’t be happy with dropping their last 3 games where they should of or could of won at least two of them. Cats at home will get the job done but the Dockers are due to put in a big effort.
Predict Geelong win 17 points

Richmond v Carlton

Carlton continue to impress with their attitude and they just give 100% every game, they have not been embarrassed to often this year. The Tigers are clinging on to a top four chance and can not afford to drop this game. The Tigers have had their share of heart breakers this season and if they had been on the other end of those results would be fighting for a top 2 spot. The Blues will keep this game close, defensively they are rock solid teams have not been scoring heavily against them so they give them selves every chance to win a few games. The Tigers have a bit more class across the board and have their sights set firmly on September action form here. In a must win they will not faulted and keep just ahead of the pack.
Predict Richmond 23 points

Saint Kilda v Gold Coast

The Suns without Ablett travelling does not sit well for the Suns. The Saints can no longer make excuses a top eight position beckons if they can win by enough points. Outside of Melbourne the Suns would be a small chance, but at Ethidad Stadium the Saints will find their home surrounds very comfortable and will have too much run for the Suns. The Suns have showed promise but this will be a mountain to high to climb this week.
Predict Saint Kilda win 33 points
