AFL Round  12 preview

Sydney v Western Bulldogs
Thursday night football and it doesn’t get much better than a Grandfinal replay if only both these sides were playing like last year. The Dogs are travelling nicely but would like to have a couple more wins under their belt. For the Swans from here it is purely about getting things right for next year spend the last half of this season building toward next year. The Dogs have won 4 of the past five between these two including two wins at the SCG, so the travel to the venue will not bother the Dogs at all. The Swans have swung the axe on Tippett and can only wonder were this leaves his career with the Swans the vultures are circling and the experiment with him and Buddy has not worked for the Swans. The small confines of the SCG will help the Bulldogs cause making it easier for them to apply the constant pressure across the ground. Expect a low scoring grinding game between the two sides but the Swans lapses will cost them against the Dogs who will punish them at every opportunity.
Predict Bulldogs win 13 points
Adelaide v Saint Kilda

Mixed form for both these sides coming into tonight’s match, Crows winning two of their past five games while the Saints have won two. The Crows where disappointing last week at Geelong last week and in their three losses this year they have been out tackled and out muscled in the mid field cutting off supply to their forward line. The Saints at there best are great to watch but have been far to inconsistent and inaccurate in front of goal. This game is a season maker for the Saints win and their finals chances stay alive but lose and it’s pretty much curtains on a season that showed a lot of promise. The Crows will need a lift from their captain Walker who has been down on form. The Crows record against the saints at home has been impeccable and this should continue tonight.

Predict Adelaide win 47 points
Hawthorn v Gold Coast

14th v 15th but should be one hell of a game, the second time these sides have met this year and the Suns embarrassed the Hawks in round three winning by a whopping 86 points. Expect a much close result today the Hawks have been playing much better the past few weeks with a couple gutsy wins over the Demons and Swans but had a shocker last week against the Power. The Suns had one of their best wins last weeks against the Eagles but have struggled to get wins away from home. Lynch and Ablett hold the key for a Suns victory if the Hawks can shit them down they will win this game. The Hawks keep showing glimpses of their best but struggle to put it together for long periods in the games. If they can get on top of the Suns early they should be able to hold them off.

Predict Hawthorn win 19 points
Brisbane v Freemantle

Must win game for the Dockers currently sitting 8th a game clear in the top 8. Dockers win here and they maintain their spot but lose and they will drop out of the eight with either Melbourne or Collingwood going above them. The Lions are just bad they play some good footy but are just plain bad bad bad, they will have an edge in the middle today with Martin being able to control the centre bounces it will then be up to their midfield to win the battle against the Dockers. Which Freo side will turn up today this is the big question, they can be so good but they have been so bad at times this year. They should have enough to beat the Lions if they can’t then they don’t deserve to be in the top 8.

Predict Freemantle win 27 points

Essendon v Port Power

This game should be a real Crackerjack of a game the Power are looking like a real top 4 threat this year and are one of the excitement machines of the AFL. The Bombers are still rebuilding but have had some big ups and some big downs. Fingers crossed for a shoot out between Daniher and Dixon but feel the game will be dominated by the Power from half back and through the midfield were they have so much run and skill. Wingard back into the Power line up is huge and look for him to impact the game early on and bounce straight back into form. The Power will be a intimidating quest for the Bombers today and will be a great gauge as to how much further they need to come in the next 12 months.
Predict Port Adelaide win 39 points
Carlton v GWS

It’s going to be a very quiet Sunday with only the one game on today, unfortunately it won’t be a very good game. The Blues have now lost their last three games and yes they keep showing the good signs but they are up against the Giants today. The Giants have had no trouble in the past of dealing Carlton some big losses and today won’t be any different. The Giants sit on top of the ladder for good reason they don’t lose games like this. With how results have gone over the weekend a win here will seal a top four position. The Giants just have winners on every line and will dominate across every line, through the middle and that forward line will not be contained.

Predict GWS win 76 points
Melbourne v Collingwood

After the way the weekend’s results have gone this game all of a sudden becomes one of the biggest of the season for both these sides. A win for either could see them jump as high as sixth on the ladder and within a game of the top 4.

Collingwood have been forced to make four changes to their side with injury taking its toll, they have managed to string together three wins in a row and have started to look better in front of goal. The debut of club legend Browns son Callum on the big stage will be one to follow with interest the Brown name is one of the biggest names in the Club. The Demons patchy form continues going win loss win loss win in their past 5 matches. The Demons best is great to watch and they have matched it with the best of sides this year only to falter in winnable games. The Queens birthday clash has had some classic matches and this one should be no different expect a heated clash.

Predict Collingwood win 23 points
