AFL Round 11 Preview

Port Adelaide v Hawthorn

It’s hard to believe that the Power are sitting 8th on the ladder, the are ranked number one in the AFL for inside 50’s and average over 30 shits on goal a game. The Hawks continue to try to rebuild their season with a gutsy win over the Swans last week but will have their hands full with the hard running Power. On paper the Hawks are still a good team but they have been having big lapses in games were they can not score or score little. The Power are a scoring machine but have been a bit wayward in front of goal at times. It hard to see the Hawks being able to contain the Power for long enough to stay in the game. Previous games between these two have been very close, five of the last six games being decided by under four goals. The Hawks have a decent record at Adelaide Oval winning three of their five trips there. The game will be close until half time but then expect the Power to pull away in the third term where Hawks have been slow and the Power dominant.
Predict Port Adelaide win 43 points

Geelong v Adelaide

Match of the round by a country mile! First vs third on the ladder, two of the most attacking sides and of course the Dangerfield factor. The Cats have a great record against the Crows winning four of the last five matches against them. At skilled stadium the crows have not won a game since 2003 and have struggled to score there not scoring over 100 points there since the 2000 season. While the Dangerfield match up will be interesting it is Scott Selwood who has been a tackling machine the last two weeks who could hold the key if he can nullify some of the Crows runners in the mid field then it gives the Cats a big upper hand. The Crows back six have been near impossible to get through and the Cats forwards will need to produce their best to get a big enough score. Walker, Betts and the other forwards for the crows have been a little down but the last two games have started to fire again. This could be a real old fashioned shoot out, expect the Cats to start well but the Crows to come storming home.
Predict Adelaide win 27 points
Gold Coast v West Coast

A game with great interest and a game that could go either way, on an ordinary day and in Western Australia you could expect a 8 goal win to the Eagles. Ablett comes back in for the Suns and Eagles are without Kennedy plus being at Metricon this is almost enough to swing the game in favour of the Suns. The Suns are one of the more efficient sides and while the Eagles can be they are prone to bad kicking in front of goal. The Eagles find themselves dangerously close to the bottom of the top 8 and is a absolute must win game if they want to maintain their spot. The Suns with not a lot to play for but confidence and pride will be a tough task.
Predict Eagles win 9 points

GWS v Essendon

The Giants find themselves with a chance to take top spot on the ladder with a win today after the Cats beat the Crows, they will not let this chance slip. The Bombers will show plenty of fight in patches and will push the Giants at times but the Giants are too strong across the ground. The Bombers will not have an answer for the Giants powerful mid field and forward line. Expect Kelly and Ward to have big games against Merrett and Zaharakis but expect Green, Patton and Cameron to kick a huge score.

The wIn last week by the Giants is as impressive as you will see and if they play with that same intensity the Bombers won’t touch them.
Predict Giants win 39 points
North Melbourne v Richmond

Such a vital, game for both sides tonight, Richmond only winning one of their past five games clinging on in the top 8, while the Kangaroos winning four of their last five to be forcing their way up the ladder. A big return to form for Dustin Martin last week with a best on ground performance and the Tigers look back to their best as they over come a feisty Bombers outfit. North faded out of the Carlton game but did enough early to secure a win. Both big forwards were down for the Kangaroos and Waite and Brown will need to step up this week for the Kangaroos to have a chance to win. Richmond have extra experience on their side and it should be enough to get them over the line in a tight contest.
Predict Richmond win 15 points
Fremantle v Collingwood

If you look at last week alone you would think that this is Collingwood’s game to lose, but you need to look further the Dockers if you forgive last week have been the form side of the league winning six of the seven games before that. Collingwood continue to frustrate when going forward and still lack a lot of polish in front of goal. The Dockers on the other hand are one of the best rebound sides in the game and are one of the most accurate when in front of goal also. Sandilands is back in this week and Grundy will not be able to have the same effect as he has had in previous weeks. The Dockers have a lot of pace around the ball and will push the Magpies into a chasing game which they will not cope with.
Predict Fremantle win 11 points
