Round 3 Review Part 2

Round 3 Review Part 2Sunday Bloody Sunday

An ugly but effective win, a good old fashioned slog and the demise of a powerhouse Sunday had it all!

Saints v Lions

Oh Saint Nick you are a champion best on ground 3 goals 12 marks to go with 28 touches in what should of been a 10 goal win. The Saints will be happy with the win but for the second week in a row where horrible in front of goal. The Lions got enough out of Beams, Rich, Rockliff and Stefan Martin has become one of the best big men in the game but it was never enough. Riewoldt and evergreen Montagna continue to lead the Saints and if the team can learn to kick straight they may just ruffle a few feathers throughout this season a team on the rise but needs a few others to step up to be a force. We will learn a lot about the Saints in the next couple rounds.

Bomber crash back down to earth.

There is a lot to like about Carlton’s young team a while there will be a lot of losses this year they are well and truly on the right track under Brendan Bolton. The Bombers on a dry day probably win this but the Blues where much better today. They almost kicked themselves out of the game but with the conditions where lucky they stayed in touch early. After that is was a good old fashion slog between two of the leagues oldest teams. Murphy and Gibbs drove the Blues while Goddard and Heppell shone for the Dons. Good to see the Blues get the win and it brings the Bombers back to reality.

The Sun rises on the Hawks demise

No one saw this coming, after being belted by 100 plus points by the Giants and the Hawks desperate to kick off their season for most it was a case of Hawthorn by how much. Gary Ablett shut his critics up in a huge on field statement playing his best game in over 2 years, Matera booting 6 goals and Hall dominant. 13 players had 20 touches or more for the Suns as they ran out a massive 86 point winners. The game poses 2 questions where has this Suns team been and can they back it up? and are the Hawks done? they looked slow and lacked all intensity and face rival Geelong this Monday which could see them easily bottom of the ladder with 0 wins.
